“The challenge was to come up with new logo design concepts that pushes the whole creative process forward.”
Although the briefs set are for fictional businesses or services each one has been approached as though it was for a real life client. By taking this professional stance demonstrates an understanding of the uniqueness of each brands needs. This can then be envisaged over various platforms be it for apps, packaging, and signage to other branding requirements.
Technology – Logo Design
Pitch – Music Streaming App
This logo design concept is for a potential rival to other music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music and SoundCloud. With clear inspiration taken from a graphic equaliser with the colours forming the letter P.
Above are visual concepts of how the load screen could look for the Pitch music streaming app on a smart phone. The animated graphic equaliser logo is also envisaged as part of the app’s loading process. The various coloured bands fade up and down stopping to reveal the Pitch logo.
ZipCloud – Fast & Reliable Cloud Hosting
This logo design takes inspiration from Paul Rand’s iconic IBM logo design. With cues taken from the IBM striping ZipCloud’s technology delivers its service with accuracy and efficiency.
The two weights of font not only give a visual contrast between the words. Having Zip in bold also reinforces the meaning of ZipCloud technology being strong and secure.
Airio – The Air Travel Itinerary App
The idea for this air travel itinerary app came when the design challenge was to come up with a logo design for a paper airplane. I’m in the firm belief that design should have meaning, purpose and context. My thought process lead me to this multi airline boarding pass management app concept.
Shown above is a proposed load screen animation for the app. With the paper airplane flying into view as the text animates on.
Food & Drink – Logo Design
Moo – Family Farm Ice Cream
The design thinking behind this logo design was taken from the word ‘Family’. By using a handwritten typeface it gives the logo a human feel. Connecting the text with the line drawing of the cow’s face further adds to the organic essence of the logo.
With a variety of ice cream flavours available there is scope to develop a range of product packaging that compliments each flavour.
Phoenix – Coffee House
The idea for this logo design concept for an independent coffee shop was inspired by the mythology of the phoenix. It is said that when the phoenix dies a new one rises from the ashes. So, just like your first cup of coffee in the morning you feel reawakened!
Flint & Flame – Smokehouse
This was another logo design challenge that was open to interpretation. Design shouldn’t be for design sake and as a designer you should have an understanding of what message or meaning needs to be communicated.
As with all the other daily logo challenges it is up to the individual to decide how they envisage what context and purpose their logo design concepts meet. One of the suggested names from this brief was Flint & Flame.
The context imagined here with the logo is for a restaurant that specialises in barbecue-style cuisine and dishes. By having this association the logo can than be used within other aspects of the business (menus, signage, website and more). In doing so turning a logo into a strong communicating feature of the brand.
Crunch – Granola Bar
While researching other cereal/granola bar brands on sale as well as skimming through other daily logo challenge submissions it was found that some logos looked too busy the vision was to create a clean, minimal and simple logo design.
Sourcing a bold typeface so that it stands out and having a slight dip to the top of some letters alludes to this logo having been picked up. Making this a tasty and desirable snack to chose.
Fashion – Logo Design
Adams & Abigail
The reasoning for the use of this serif font for this logo design was to encapsulate a sense of style and quality that this imagery independent clothing boutique offers.
Vault
Inspired by architectural vaults this logo design is to be used in bold ways across the clothing range.
Services – Logo Design
Dark Room Studio
The colour of this logo design takes its inspiration from the red safelight used in photographic darkrooms. The shape of the logo is based on the enlarging easels, which is a piece photographic darkroom equipment used for holding photographic paper. The blurred edges reference a darkroom enlarger Specialised projectors that have to be manually focused in order to produce photographic prints from negatives.
The Dark Room Studio logo can be used on a various platforms. The examples above have the potential to be used in business literature to website service pages.
Bob The Barber
For this logo design the thinking was not to overload the logo with clichéd barbershop iconography such as the blue and red of a barbers pole or hair clippers and cut throat razors.
The logo had to show in a different way what service was being offered. The use of only having the head of hair and beard acts as a reflection of the client after they’ve had a cut. With the typeface being big and bold it makes a statement while the two small scissors bookend the Bob the Barber text further indicating what type of business this logo represents.
Travel & Tourism – Logo Design
Sunnies – Outback Tours
The brief for this logo design was to create a kangaroo logo but the final outcome was very open to interpretation. Something had to be created that has meaning, purpose and can be put into a context just like the paper airplane logo.
The hazy sun was inspired by the fictitious company name Sunnies. The green and gold also takes inspiration from the national colours of Australia. With the combination of the continuous line drawing of a kangaroo along with the addition of the ‘Outback Tours’ text helps give this logo the meaning, purpose and context that was set out to be achieved.
Visit Torrine
Branding for a city can be a tricky task, as it has to appeal, resonate and galvanise its inhabitants and potential visitors. This design is inspired by Milton Glaser’s I Love NY slogan and logo. What has evolved is Love To Visit Torrine logo.
With combining evocative imagery within the heart shape of this logo design depicting what Torrine has to offer for example the Arts, Business and Sport this can form part of a marketing campaign that would instil a sense of pride to locals as well as communicating the positive aspects that would attract new businesses and visitors to this city.
