Brand Identity: Pure Education

It started off with the lovely people at Pure Education asking me to create a new company logo but as all graphic designers worth their salt know, there’s more to it than that when it comes to a brands identity.

To be fair Monica and Filipe (director’s at Pure Education) were very open minded to the creative possibilities for the company’s updated identity. The only stipulations they asked for were to keep an element from the original logo and to have something different. If only all client’s were like that.

During our first meeting it was clear how passionate they both are about the teachers and schools they provide for. Being professional but with a friendly and relaxed manner. This insight added to the direction I wanted to guide their identity towards.

The first stage was the development of the logo. The creative challenge was to still communicate the educational aspect as Monica wanted to stay away from anything to oblivious or clichéd relating to education. A droplet of water represented the ‘Pure’ element of the original logo and this is what had to be incorporated into the new design. A thick outline forms the water droplet with ‘Pure Education’ cutting through it. The outer shapes represent the opening of a book. Combining these elements suggest a rippling effect. The final outcome is a clean, modern logo with a distinctive look and feel.

The creative challenge was to still communicate the educational aspect…The final outcome is a clean, modern logo with a distinctive look and feel.

The next step was to freshen up the online presence of Pure Education not only with a mobile-friendly website but with the visual content too. Again, following on from my chat with Monica and Filipe I knew I wanted to stay away from contrived and tacky stock imagery. I sourced images that have a modern and real sense to them which talks to their audience. This is carried through to the promotional and business literature.

Further more I encouraged them to start their own blog. This has a multitude of benefits if done consistently. Blogging regularly adds content to your site that over time aids your search engine ranking. Also, by having engaging and helpful posts shows your audience that you have knowledge, insight and experience in the subject or sector you’re passionate about. To gain more of loyal following and consumer base include CTA’s, newsletter signup, discounts and freebies.

Hmm…maybe I should start taking my own advice.
